Have You had Your 15 Minutes of Fame?

We have all seen the news when a big event happens. The news camera usually focusses on someone who doesn’t have a clue, and the reporter asks questions. This is their time to shine in the sun. They were not expecting it nor were they prepared for it. They say things on live television that will make them kick themselves later. This was their 15 minutes of fame.

Think about it, 15 minutes is not much. Having an “occasional win” just is not enough. I want more in life and I believe you do too. Why can’t we experience a “win” every day? It may be because we are not planning for it and certainly not ready for it.

Let me give you 7 things to do that will make you experience your “15 minutes of fame”, every day.

Start the day with a priority and keep it. If this were your last day on earth, what priority would you have? I know every day is not that drastic, so what about looking at all the things needing to be accomplished today, and start with the most important. Start with what you can finish now and get it out there. You can improve it later.

Identify what energizes you most and do it. “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” (Confucius). When you live and work in your strengths and not your stresses, your potential for success is much greater. When you do something that energizes you, it creates mental momentum to accomplish something that doesn’t.

Be consistent. Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day. You may not change the world before sundown, but you can make a difference. Consistent accomplishment is what brings completion and success. Stay at it and don’t quit. If you stressed, just take a short 15-minute break, then get back at it. You will soon enjoy your 15 minutes of fame when you enjoy it completed.

Don’t allow less important things to distract you. There will always be “rabbits” to chase. When you start chasing them you will soon be lost and forget where you going originally. Stay focused. Don’t celebrate being busy. Celebrate being effective.

Build off of yesterday. Take what you have done and try to do it better. Look at the things that you CAN do, and LIKE to do, and refine them. Oftentimes when you “sleep” on something, and think about it with a clear mind, you will gain a clearer perspective. Become the best at it that you can be by getting better every day.

See options, not just opportunities. Opportunities are everywhere but they may not align with your mission. Once you know your “why”, you can focus on your “what”, and you will have good options. Some say, “To make money you must have money.” I might say, “To have options you have to take advantage of options”. Success often moves by very quickly and you have to be aware or you might miss it. While you don’t want your day to get hijacked by distractions, you also must be very aware of potential options that could enhance what you are doing.

Re-group and Attack. Every day may not be a “big” win but it could still be “a” win. Every day may not seem like a “headline day” but it can still have an interesting story. Have no fear, learn from it, and re-group and attack it with passion. If you dwell on failures and missed opportunities you may miss one right in front of you today.
